Creating a New Appointment

• From the Calendar, press the Menu button, and tap New event.

• In Daily view, tap and hold the time that you want your appointment to start. Then tap New event on the pop-up menu.

• In Weekly view, tap and hold the day and time that you want your appointment to start. Then tap New event on the pop-up menu.

• In Monthly view, tap and hold the day on which you want your appointment to be. Then tap New event on the pop-up menu.

No matter which method you use,you end up with an Event details form.

Because forgetting a friend or relative’s birthday always leads to hurt feelings,we’ll go through the following steps to create a new appointment for a birthday:

1. Using any of the previously listed methods, create a new, empty event.

2. In the What field, enter the subject—in this case,John’s Birthday.

3. In the From field, tap the date, and change the month, day, and year to whatever is appropriate for your event. You can use the plus and minus buttons to shift the date a few days in either direction,or type the date directly.

4. If this is an all-day event, tap the All day check box to select it.

5. Tap the Where field, and enter a location.

6. Tap the Description field, and enter a longer description if necessary.

7. If you have multiple calendars, tap the Calendar drop-down list, and select the calendar that you want to use for your event. You can choose only one calendar.

8. Tap the Reminder field, and choose a date for the event reminder.Tap X if you don’t want a reminder.

9. Tap the Repeats field, and choose a recurrence pattern. For a birthday, for example, drag your finger up the screen, and then tap Yearly to select it.

10. Press the Menu button, and tap Show extra options. The next two options are not required, but we’ll list them here just in case you find them useful.

11. Tap the Presence drop-down to change the presence information.Presence allows you to define a block of time as free or busy.So if others share your calendar, they know if you are available during a certain block of time.

12. Tap the Privacy drop-down to choose whether your event is private or public.A private event appears as busy on your calendar, but no details are available to those viewing your calendar.

13. Tap Save to save your event.

Note: You might have noticed an Add reminder option when pressing the Menu button and wondered why that option is there when you just added a reminder.Well,an appointment can have more than one reminder. In fact,it can have as many as five different reminders.
