Sending a Contact a Text Message

There are several ways to send a text message to a contact. We’ll start with the original method:

1. Tap the Application tab,tap Messaging, and then tap New message.

2. With the keyboard, start typing the name of one of your contacts, your phone tries to complete your typing with the name of one or more of your contacts.

Note:  If you have multiple contacts with similar first names, you might get a choice when you start typing the name. For example,if you have a contact named John Eddy and another named Joan Eddy, typing Jo pro- duces a pop-up box with both of those names listed.Just tap the specific contact you want.

The previous method isn’t the only way you can send a text message to a contact, however. You can follow these steps to send a text message directly from the Contacts list:

1. Tap the Application tab,and then tap Contacts.

2. Tap and hold one of your contacts until you see the pop-up menu.

3. Tap Send SMS/MMS.

4. Type your message, and tap Send.

Note:  If you don’t see Send SMS/MMS on the pop-up menu, you probably tried to send a message to a contact who doesn’t have a phone number entered.

There is one last way to send a text message to a contact. It is particularly helpful if the contact has more than one phone number:

1. Tap the Application tab,and then tap Contacts.

2. Select one of your contacts to open his or her record.

3. Under Send SMS/MMS,tap the phone number that you want to use to send a text message.

4. Type your message, and tap Send.
