Taking Pictures with Your Phone

When people purchase a mobile phone, the first three things they usually do are make a phone call, change the ringtone (or at least listen to a number of them),and take a picture. If you want to use your phone to take a picture, follow these steps:

1. Tap the Application tab,and then tap Camera.

2. Aim the camera at the target.

3. Press the trackball to capture the image. The camera might try to focus the image first,so keep the phone steady until you see the captured image on the screen.

After the phone captures the image, you see the following options:

Save

This option saves the picture to your phone. Most mobile phones have enough storage for hundreds of pictures.

Set As

This set of options allows you to associate the photo with a contact or save it as the phone’s wallpaper.

Saving a Picture with a Contact

Saving a picture with a contact does two things.

• When you open the contact, you see his or her picture at the top of the screen.

• When you receive a call from the contact, you see his or her picture on the screen.

Only one picture at a time can be associated with a contact.

To save a picture with a contact, follow these steps:

1. From the picture, tap Set as.

2. Tap Contact.

3. Select your contact from the list of contacts.

4. Drag the small box that appears around the picture to select the portion of the image that you want to use for your contact. You might not be able to select the entire picture, depending on how big it is,so drag the box to highlight the part of the picture you want to see.

5. Tap Save when you’re happy with the photo,or tap Discard if you want to start over.

Setting a Picture as Your Wallpaper

The second option you have after you tap Set is to save the picture as your phone’s wallpaper. You know that watery vista that appears on your phone when you’re looking at the home screen? That’s your phone’s wallpaper. You can change this wallpaper to anything you’d like.

To save a picture as the phone’s wallpaper, follow these steps:

1. From the picture, tap Set as.

2. Tap Wallpaper.

3. Drag the rectangular box that appears around your picture. You might not be able to select the entire picture.

4. Tap Save when you’re happy with the photo,or tap Discard if you want to start over.

Share

This set of options allows you to send your picture to other people. You can choose from the following sharing options:

• Email: If you have set up a POP3 or IMAP4 account, you can send the picture through the default account.

• Google mail: Choosing this option creates a new Gmail message and automatically attaches the image.

• Messaging: This option lets you send the picture as a Multimedia Message System message. This is very much like a text message.

Sharing by Email

To share a picture by email or Google mail, follow these steps:

1. With the picture to be shared in view, tap Share.

2. Tap Email to display the screen.

3. If you chose Email and you have multiple email accounts, tap the account you want to use.Otherwise, proceed with step 4.

4. Enter the recipient’s address in the To field.

5. Enter a subject.

6. Enter a message.

7. Tap Send.

Sharing Photos by Messaging

Sharing a picture by messaging sends what is known as a Multimedia Message System (MMS) message. An MMS message is a lot like a text message, although not all phones can receive MMS messages. If you are sending someone an MMS message, first you should verify that he or she can receive MMS messages. In addition, your recipient will likely be charged for each MMS message he or she receives, and you will be charged for each one you send.

To share your picture in an MMS message, follow these steps:

1. With the picture to be shared in view, tap Share.

2. Tap Messaging.

3. If your picture is too large, the phone asks you to resize the image before sending.Tap Resize to compress the image.

4. Enter the recipient’s phone number in the To field.

5. Use the keyboard to enter a message.

6. Tap Send.

Note: If you want to cancel an MMS message, there’s only one way to do it on the G1.Press the Back button on the phone. You’re asked if you want to discard the message.Tap OK to discard,or tap Cancel if you pressed this button by mistake.

Delete

This option is fairly obvious. There is no warning after you tap Delete. The picture is immediately and permanently deleted.
